Mobile networks to confuse the market with Tizen

Ever since Samsung announced they will be bringing Tizen to the masses as soon as MWC, the level of interest has increases incredibly. We all like to see something new however Tizen is nothing but a massive trojan horse which will disrupt the market and could give ultimate control of where you buy some handsets. Im talking about Orange, +Vodafone and DoCoMo.

What Samsung have done is create an end to end list of partners from hardware, software and network that could see their products championed quite quickly because each process of the production cycle will offer a piece of the dollar pie. So would this mean for example, a double payday for Vodafone in the event of selling a +Tizen Association based handset, which then renders sales into an unethical mess because Samsung, Vodafone / Orange / DoCoMo depending on your geographic, will be ramming Tizen down your neck like some kind of vet giving a tablet to a Rhino.

+Sony used the consortium to push Blu Ray(only one of 2 formats outside of digital), as have many eastern companies because they never like making choices on their own because failure brings so much shame. Sony gave everyone a slice of the pie but what happened to Blu Ray, I think it was 2 years too late but with 4k round the corner those large movies wont be available to stream or download anytime soon in many parts of the UK and Europe as most are stuck on slugband.

While some would champion Samsungs vision to do this, it does mean there will be a whole load of people who could end up buying a dead duck. Many many iOS owners couldnt make the jump to Android as they have invested too much into App Store, same for Android owners going the other way, but the thing that worries me is those who dont have awareness of what they are buying, they get a dose of Tizen and lose out on their purchases and then begs the question about app support, oh thats why Samsung have the smart watch out running Tizen, sure it doesnt matter which OS your watch runs right, I agree with that, however its being used as a dev kit of sorts so some get try out their apps before a general phone release.

Blackberry died because it didnt keep with the times, but it was much more than that, having 3 major platforms is too much of any market. There is only really two types of fuel, derv or petrol. Desktop you have Mac or Windows, I can think of so many instances both in and out of the technology sector.

My point is the third option is almost always an also ran. Windows Mobile is already the 3rd OS for mobile, electric is the other option to dev or petrol - you can say LPG too but who uses that. TV options you have 3 - satellite, cable or aerial. Any Linux distro is another option to the desktop while Chrome has started to gain traction.

I cant see Tizen being much more than an also ran option 3 or 4, but if the powers of the greedy networks rather than +Samsung Mobile  are wanting to get in on the mobile platform game, then it could mean iOS and Android are in for a ruff ride at the point of sale. My advice is avoid Tizen, its just a trojan horse for the mobile networks to control more of your wallet, your mind and your soul (ok a bit dramatic).

Mobile Search Report In US 46 1 Million users

Nielsen Mobile has released the results of a survey of 5,700 mobile search users which found that 46.1 million people in the US used mobile search in the third quarter of 2007.

Of those people 18.1 million used 411 and 14.1 million used SMS-based searching. The most popular things that were searched included local listings with 27.1 million people searching for those in the quarter, followed by 14.8 million searching for information such as sports scores, news or weather, and 11.3 million searched for mobile content. The survey also found demographic differences, with 61% of 411 searchers being female while 60% of WAP searchers were male.

A third of SMS searchers were under 25 and within SMS search providers Yahoo, Yellowpages SMS and SuperPages SMS “all over-index for Hispanic users”.

GTA San Andreas for mobile game review

GTA San Andreas

"2004 called, it wants its game back" this was my first reaction when i downloaded and opened the brand new GTA San Andreas app for iOS (coming soon to WindowsPhone /Android)
for the first tim.The game is the third GTA game for mobile devices after GTA 3 and the all time favourite GTA Vice City. The $6.99 game will hopefully bring back some old memories to
veteran GTA players who will find the plot to be very familiar , but sadly the stock thumb controls and the poor explosions -a la poor graphics makes the game look a little dull,
To be honest , i also found the game a bit too large for a mobile device ,but that is mainly due to the complexity of the maps and the details in the game but still, the 1.7GB game will need
atleast 3.5GB+ of free space to download without getting a failed to download error ,but hey ,you can still brag about playing a former console/PC game on your mobile device
now and that alone is enough for most gadget addicts

Plot,Gameplay and controls

If youu played this game on a console or PC,the plot will be nothing new except for the fact thay now you can carry it in youur pocket or man/purse.The game starts with CJ,who returns to his
old home in San Andreas after spending a tough life in Liberty City .Being a GTA game , there is no real necessity in playing missions,The graphics however are not top notch , shadows ,explosions
and round objects still look like they need more love as they tend to look very cheap ,but the game is still jolly fun after all these years and if you just want to have some fun , you can just steal
a car and drive along the complex network of roads, highways and occational hit and runs that are associated with GTA driving . if you get bored , you can always drop
lead down range with the numerous weapons you can accquire at hidden locations and shops (Sorry, game cheats still dont work on mobile devices ,yet!) .Speaking of weapons
,the games auto targeting system doesnt really help here because it will automatically point the gun at any target around you , and this certainly wont help you if you
are surrounded by platoon of Ballas or Vagos gang members only to find that your M16 keeps pointing at a old lady across the street .This however can be corrected by
touching the target , but if you dont like the annoying touch thumb controls , you can always spend some real cash on a ios/Android friendly game controller and call it a day .

The Good
*Its San Andreas in your pocket hommie , enough said

Whats Bad
*controls , autofire system and some touch controls can really drive you to insanity in a few hours
*some graphic details still need some polishing
*(Android - most capable devices from last year are incompatible with the official PlayStore game (you can get the APK and show Rockstar the finger though).

Our Rating - 8/10

Calling all Carriers Introducing AdSense for mobile search

In September 2007, we launched Adsense for mobile content so that publishers could join our mobile content network and monetize their sites with Google text ads.

Today, were happy to announce a new AdSense product for both mobile network operators and mobile website owners across the globe. AdSense for mobile search is a quick and easy way for carriers and mobile publishers to embed a Google search box on their mobile portals and web sites. Whether they are day-dreaming of Hawaii or trying to find the perfect Valentines day gift, mobile phone users will get instant access to Google search including comprehensive web search, local, image, and news results -- all formatted for their phones. Mobile operators and website owners share in the ad revenue generated by searches originating from their sites.

AdSense for mobile search is a Google-hosted solution, which means users will experience the same speed, reliability, and innovation that theyve come to expect from Google. And even though the results pages are served by Google, the pages can be cobranded with publishers logos and linked back to their sites. See the mock-up on the left.

If youre interested in beta-testing AdSense for mobile search, please fill out this form. And if you are coming to Barcelona next week for the Mobile World Congress, make sure to fill out the form by Friday, February 13. We are inviting a limited number of carriers and publishers for a private information session about AdSense for mobile search and would love to meet you. Note that filling out the form does not guarantee participation in the program.
